Mary Chester - Harpist

This harpist studied the harp and celtic harp at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama with Sanchia Pielou, a founder member and principal harpist with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra for fifty years and regarded as the 'doyen' of the harp in Scotland. After winning the subject prize for harp and earning a glowing report in the Governors' Recital Competition, she graduated in 1984 with a BA in Music Performance.

After highly acclaimed performances of Mozart's Concerto for flute and harp, A Ceremony of Carols, (Britten's solo harp and choral work), and programmes of Opera with the RSAMD's drama department, she went on to perform Ravel's Introduction and Allegro for harp, flute, clarinet and string quartet. This was immediately followed by an invitation from Scottish Ballet to join the orchestra as principal harpist in 1985.

She has enjoyed playing her harp for guests, from such prestigious venues as Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland to the Hilton in Hong Kong, and is now very much in demand as harpist for weddings, corporate events, private parties and other celebrations.

This harpist can also be booked as a Bollywood Harpist for Asian weddings

Please appreciate that she doesn't play her harp outdoors, so an outdoor ceremony wouldn't work for her. However, for your drinks reception she could sit just inside open patio doors and use her amplifier, depending on the layout of the venue.

Mary Chester - Harpist Feedback

Just like to say that the guests at the wedding thought you were amazing and very professional, as did we. It was a lovely touch to the wedding and it added to the ambiance of the drinks reception. The whole experience from booking you to your performance on the day was top class. We can't tell you how pleased we were to have a harpist at the wedding and pleased we picked someone as talented as you. Thank you once again.

I would like to confirm how wonderful your contribution to the evening was. Just the right choice of music, beautifully played, and it was lovely to meet you. Our friends thoroughly enjoyed your music, especially as some of them were involved in local music-making. I'll certainly spread the word about your lovely performance. Thank you.

Thank you so much. Having you there playing, absolutely made it for us. It was so classy and lovely and far better than any CD! The whole day was perfect and we could not have asked for anything more. You were most definitely worth every penny.

Rob and Natalie Lees,

You are already a virtuoso harpist, and I would say that you could develop a virtuoso career
