The Shropshire Harpist - Harpist
This professional Shropshire harpist has a wealth of experience enriched by the diversity of her career. Her capacity for communication in her performances not only brings a charm and elegance to special occasions, but, as she is frequently told, also touches hearts.
She started playing the piano aged 4 and the harp aged 13 and following graduation from London College of Music where she specialised in performance, she undertook Postgraduate Music Therapy training followed by teacher training. As a HCPC Registered Music Therapist she heads Shrewsbury Music Therapy Unit which she set up in 1988, and is highly trained to use her music to reach children and adults with communication difficulties and associated emotional and behavioral problems. She also teaches piano and harp and for 10 years was on the board of examiners for London College of Music at University of West London, as well as coordinating the writing of their harp syllabus.
She also pursues a very busy performing schedule as a harpist and pianist. She has played piano concertos and given recitals around the UK including being selected to perform in the Purcell Room on London’s South Bank.
“Considerable expertise in interpretation” (Belfast Telegraph)
She has performed Handel’s Harp Concerto and Britten’s “Ceremony of Carols” and in July 2008 she was privileged to play her harp for her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra on her visit to Coalport China Museum. She also performs as a harpist with orchestras around the country including Russell Watson’s touring orchestra.
Weddings
She is very much in demand for weddings and special events and has an extensive repertoire from classical Rachmaninoff to popular Coldplay and can provide unobtrusive amplification but if you would like her to play outside, then there are specific provisions she needs to be met in order to protect her harp.
For the Drinks Reception or Wedding Breakfast, she generally presents an eclectic mix of styles as seems appropriate on the day, so that the music appeals to the varied tastes of the invited guests. She will take into account if you have a preferred style of music & you are welcome to specify up to five pieces of music from the following play list for particular inclusion during the Drinks Reception or Wedding Breakfast.
Special Requests can be catered for, where preferably two months’ notice is given allowing for researching suitability for harp transcription. However, as pop song material can often only be acquired via the internet and often only via American websites, there will be a minimum charge of £5 per song to cover purchase costs & bank exchange charges. More than two special requests may incur additional costs for time spent sourcing & preparation time.
For Outdoor Weddings she will in most cases substitute her pedal harp with her lever harp (with amplification) which is styled like a pedal harp but is less susceptible to damage from climatic conditions. Please notify us at the point of booking of the intent to hold the wedding outside.
