The Manchester Silhouette Artist - Silhouette Artist
This Manchester Silhouette Artist is a retired Aircraft Design and Publications Engineer and began cutting silhouettes in 1984 when he was asked if he could provide silhouettes for an Edwardian fair. By the end of the day he was invited to do more at local school fairs and Folk Festivals.
Without drawing, using only a pair of scissors and black paper your head and shoulder portrait can be cut in a couple of minutes. Using only hand and eye coordination an accurate profile can be cut out of paper.
When booked for events he can usually cut between 20 and 25 silhouettes per hour.
Silhouette portraits became popular in Victorian times and although time has passed there are still a small band of people keeping this decorative and beautiful art alive.
He is one of only 6 practicing silhouette cutters in the UK and also collects old and unusual silhouette art.
He is also an accomplished watercolour painter who enjoys teaching these skills to others and manages to fill his lessons with a passion and enthusiasm for art that makes it a delight to learn.
