James Malks - Pianist
He is a versatile UK professional pianist with a wealth of experience playing for weddings, private parties, and corporate events.
Playing a sophisticated blend of jazz standards, popular ballads, and light classical pieces, he creates the perfect atmosphere for any ceremony, reception or dinner.
He started learning classical piano at the age of 7, and his subsequent interest in jazz, pop and rock music prompted him to study at Leeds College Of Music. After graduating in 1984, he worked in a variety of musical situations as keyboard player, pianist, and arranger. He was keyboardist and assistant musical director on the first UK tour of ‘What a Feeling’ with Irene Cara in 1996, and shortly after became a founder member of top band 'Groovin’ High', backing Tony Hadley and appearing with Bryan Adams. As a member of The British Philharmonic Orchestra, Chris has played keyboards with Andrea Bocelli on five UK tours - taking in The O2 Arena, Manchester MEN, Liverpool Echo Arena and Belfast Odyssey.
As a solo pianist, he performed on leading cruise liners QE2 and Oriana, and held long standing residencies at The Savoy Hotel and Sopwell House in St. Albans.
He plays for many private parties and corporate events at top London venues such as The Berkeley, The Wallace Collection, and V & A museum. He regularly entertains at Searcys restaurant on the top floor of the ‘Gherkin’ building in the city.
He has recently played at events for Sir Alan Sugar, The Russian Embassy, The Bishop Of St Albans, and The New England Patriots. He is currently a resident pianist at Marcus Wareing's 'Gilbert Scott' restaurant at St Pancras.
