Funk is a genre of music that originated in African American communities in the mid-1960s when musicians created a rhythmic, danceable new form of music through a mixture of various music genres that were popular among African-Americans in the mid-20th century. James Brown was the pioneer of Funk and by the early 1970’s he had fully established the “Funk” sound that we know and love now!
Disco is a genre of dance music that also emerged in the United States during the 1970s, which is why Funk and Disco often go so well together. Disco was developed further mainly by artists from the United States and Europe including ABBA, the Bee Gees, Boney M, Earth, Wind & Fire and Sister Sledge.
Disco and Funk bands often have a brass section and perform a great selection of popular hits from the late 60s and 70s to the present day - we have bands to suit all budgets, venue sizes and event types.
