The South West Sitarist - Sitarist
The South West Sitarist has been playing Indian Classical Music for over 50 years and can be hired as a solo sitarist or as a sitar and tabla duo.
He studied with Punita Gupta a disciple of the great sitar player Ravi Shankar and with Bengali sitar player Pandit Gunguly. He has played extensively in the Uk and in Europe. During these performances his development of each raga has delight his audiences.
He can provide his own sound equipment and is available for both concert work and weddings and events.
The South West Sitarist has been involved in a wide variety of collaborations and recordings with Classical Indian musicians but has also worked with musicians from other musical and artistic genres including Jazz, Rock, Folk, World and Western Classical Music, Dance, and Movement.
For 15 years was an associate lecturer in Indian classical music at the University of Plymouth before he retired.
The South West Sitarist enjoys performing at weddings and events, and Indian classical music, with the Raga and Tala system has improvisation at its heart.
It has the quality to create an atmosphere which is fresh and exciting each time the Raga is performed.
