The Chaps - Vintage Gatsby Band

Looking for unusual Gatsby themed entertainment? These chaps can wander around during the arrival drinks playing acoustically or perform a cabaret set on the stage.

Straight from the golden era of the roaring twenties, these three phenomenally talented eccentric English gentlemen present a side splitting musical revue of tip top jazz and classic vaudevillian comedy.

Be astounded and confounded by the heart melting sound of Mr. Dennis Teeth's musical saw!  Gasp in amazement ant the lightning speed of the Duke of Nostalgia's galloping ukulele!  Thrill to the electrifying rhythms of Maris Piper's tea chest bass!  Swoon to the charming harmony singing of these dashing daredevils of swing!

A surefire hit wherever they play, The Chaps combine virtuosic musicianship with mind-bendingly silly visual gags, delightful humour and hilarious novelty moments.

What can one say about this group?

"Their performance was certainly fast, furious and fun. The blurb on their advertising poster was completely accurate – they were truly eccentric! Their comedy was delightful and the clowning was hilarious and utterly ridiculous, the audience was incredulous at their musical ability and in hysterics over some of their zanier antics. Some of these included some very skilful juggling tricks, a very funny and convincing human ventriloquist’s dummy, a Battle of Britain replay- with literally dozens of paper aeroplanes being hurled at the audience and returned in good measure and a large ‘bouncing bomb’, which after much bouncing around the hall, exploded showering hundreds of small pieces of paper in the air – all to the accompaniment of ‘The Dam Busters March’!"

"This musical comedy spoof of 20's nightclub crooning is getting funnier and more imaginative all the time. They went down a storm with children and adults, and their climactic version of the Dambusters March had the audience roaring." Venue Magazine

"Hi guys, I saw you on Sunday and loved you so much that I had to take my friend on Monday. I have never smiled so much. Great music. Great comedy. Great fun. So much talent. Maybe see you again on Wednesday! Thank you very much." Ellen (front row blue sequin jacket)

"The skill of these gentlemen with the ukulele, the eerily beautiful musical saw, the wonderful tunefully thumping tea chest bass, along with dozens of varied percussion instruments, proved that these chaps were talented musicians and singers with a great capacity to entertain. In spite of the fact that no one had been quite sure what to expect from this entertainment, the hall had very few empty seats and those present seemed to have almost permanent smiles on their faces. It seemed that a good time was enjoyed by all!" Catsfield, Rye and Battle Observer

The Chaps - Vintage Gatsby Band Feedback

On 5th March we presented our annual Charity Musical Evening at Caldicott School, Farnham Royal for 200 guests comprising a buffet dinner, entertainment and a raffle. Thanks to a personal recommendation by Mr Johnny Ball, the TV personality, I hired the band to be our ‘headline’ act. From the beginning their support and enthusiasm for the project made the on-going organisation simple. The evening was a resounding success and their performance was superb. They immediately understood the nature of the audience (retirees, 60+ and mostly couples) and played to it accordingly. Within minutes they had them “in the palm of their hands” with their refreshing and unique blend of zany humour combined with brilliant vocal and musical skills. The finale was worth the admission price alone! Following a warm and prolonged ovation they willingly came back to perform an encore. Their performance was a delight as was their cheerful disposition. I have no hesitation in unreservedly recommending them.

What a splendid garden party to celebrate the union of hats and motor cars. We were absolutely thrilled to have you here to entertain us. You really made the garden party so very special. All the thank you letters are arriving – each and every one comments just how super you were. On behalf of David and myself thank you so much for making our day so wonderful.

David and Wife, , Corporate Event (10th March 2016)

Can you please say a huge thank you to Nanny for agreeing to let you travel over to join us at our wedding in St. Fagans Museum on Saturday - you really made our day and I can't count the number of times I was asked 'Where on earth did you find those gentlemen - they're amazing!'. I don't know how we managed to keep it quiet in the past year but it was well worth it to see the reaction! Thank you again - it was absolutely brilliant (as expected!)

,

Thanks so much for jazzing up the theatre square, lovely to have you back!

The National Theatre,

Thanks so much for your incredible performance at the Ball. We loved having you guys up, and we've had nothing but positive feedback ever since. Lots of people have said that you were their highlight of the evening.

Dan and Jo,

I just wanted to write to thank you so very much for your wonderful musical input to our wedding at Lords of the Manor. You provided the most phenomenal atmosphere in which our guests all thoroughly enjoyed themselves! Your whole entertainment starting with the Gramophone DJ and moving on to your great performances engaged everyone so much! We have had so many great comments back - '...out of this world' 'Those thirties chaps really hit the spot!!' Anyway, take care and hopefully we will have some other occasion when your musical talents will be required! Thanks again. Absolutely Tip Top!

Nic and Sarah,

I just wanted to say a massive huge thank you for playing at our wedding. You really were awesome! Absolutely perfect (both the singing and the gramophone djing) and just what we wanted. We've had so many lovely thank you letters thanking us for the whole day and every single one says how much they enjoyed the band. Also thank you so much for being so organised and having a battery powered amp! Would have been a disaster without given the broken generator. Luckily I think the majority of people were blissful unaware of that whole problem. I hope you didn't all get too hot, what a blissful day but not great for woolen suits! Thank you again, you really were amazing and will form a lasting part of our very happy memories for our big day.

Lucy and Roo,

It is not often that I cry with laughter, but this act caused this rare phenomenon! Musical, clever and hilarious. At times I could hardly believe what was going on. Go and see them for a couple of hours of top entertainment which leaves you wanting more!
